Stephen Ministries has been in operation at Knox since November of 2010 when the first class of Stephen Ministers began to meet. The following will give you some information about the program and what has happened so far.
Stephen Ministries began in 1975 in St. Louis, Missouri. Since then more than 70,000 pastors, church staff, and laypersons have been trained as Stephen Leaders and more than 600,000 people have been trained as Stephen Ministers.
In Stephen Ministry congregations, lay caregivers (Stephen Ministers) provide one-to-one Christian care to the bereaved, hospitalized, terminally ill, separated, divorced, unemployed, relocated, and others facing a crisis or life challenge. Stephen Ministry helps pastors and congregations provide quality caring ministry for as long as people need it.
Our Knox Stephen Ministry team currently consists of three Stephen Ministers who are available to provide one-on-one support. The team also provides special support to all who are grieving the loss of a loved one by distributing timely short books throughout the first year after their loss to help them journey through their grief.
As a growing congregation, we are moving through an important phase in our spiritual life. Trained lay people are available to support others who are experiencing a challenging time in their lives. Please feel free to speak to us in confidence if you or someone you know could benefit from the support of Stephen Ministry. We ask you to keep this ministry in your prayers.
